Crafting a New Strategic Direction:

A private, family foundation had been funding education and human services in their local community for the past twelve years. As several board members retired and new voices joined, the Foundation decided to employ a strategic planning process to identify issues that would more deeply engage the broader family. Rather than continue to expand the number of issues addressed, Intentional Philanthropy helped the family to realize their common passions around access to opportunity, self-sufficiency and empowerment. The family also discovered a common concern for high school youth transitioning to college or the workplace. The family then decided to focus a substantial portion of its funding to address financial literacy, career readiness and access to college. The newly reformed board now has a shared goal in supporting the youth of their community.
