Year I joined IP: 2021
What I bring to IP: I came to IP after running a very small nonprofit for over three years. As the only employee there, I was able to learn all aspects of nonprofit governance, operations, fundraising, event management and more, as well as see up close the direct impact of my work in the community. This intimate knowledge of the nonprofit sector, and a true appreciation of what a foundation grant can mean to these organizations, grounds my work with IP.
Before starting at IP, I worked in environmental nonprofits for nearly five years. I have a B.S. in Environmental Science from Cornell University and an M.S. in Environmental Studies from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF). As more and more foundations begin to deepen their environmental grantmaking, I hope to be able to utilize my knowledge and experience to help them make decisions that align their giving priorities with the severe and immediate needs our planet is facing.
What I love most about my work: I love the idea that we are helping our clients take their philanthropic ideals from a vision to reality and make a real-world impact. I also love that I will constantly be learning on this job – whether it’s new best practices in a field, delving into an entirely new field, or learning about our clients’ histories, passions, and theories of change.
What I am most excited about learning right now: I’m very interested in the idea of community-based participatory grantmaking and am excited to learn how foundations can engage with communities through these or similar processes.
What I do in a typical week: I currently work across many clients on several projects so there really is no such thing as a typical week, which is great because I get to interact with so many of my friendly and talented IP coworkers.
What I do when I’m not working: I spend a lot of time going to different restaurants, breweries, cafes, parks and cultural venues in my neighborhood of Long Island City, Queens and other nearby Queens & Brooklyn neighborhoods (where you can find the best and most diverse food in the world). I also play in recreational soccer and basketball leagues and play other sports with friends when I can.
